Reflections on Using a Diary App to Conduct a Diary Study to Assess Emergent Technologies in Private Households

Sprachassistenten wie Alexa werden jedes Jahr in dreistelliger Millionenhöhe verkauft. Sie gelten als Plug-and-Play-Lösungen, die den Alltag einfacher und bequemer machen. Obwohl der Absatzmarkt für Haushaltsgeräte jedes Jahr wächst, werden die meisten neuen Technologien in einem geschäftlichen Umfeld eingesetzt, analysiert und dafür optimiert. In diesem Forschungsprojekt wurde der Einsatz von Sprachassistenten in privaten Haushalten im Hinblick auf die mögliche Anpassung der täglichen, persönlichen Alltagsroutinen untersucht. Die Studie wurde mit Hilfe einer Tagebuch-App durchgeführt. Dieser Beitrag beschreibt die Auswahl der verwendeten Tagebuch-App und reflektiert deren Einsatz aus Sicht der Forschenden und Projektteilnehmenden. Zu den Auswahlkriterien gehören die Schnittstelle zwischen Menschen und App, die Art der Datenerhebung, das Dashboard des Forschenden, die mögliche Interaktion zwischen Forschenden und Projektteilnehmenden, die Sprache und die automatisierte Transkription, die Datensicherheit, der angebotene technische Support, die Unternehmenskultur, der professionelle Eindruck und die Kosten, die für ein Forschungsprojekt besonders wichtig sind. Abschliessend werden die Schwachstellen bei der Auswahl der Tagebuch-App beim Einsatz von Technologiestudien skizziert.
